At Snowflake, we prioritize empowering our customers to fully utilize their data while upholding compliance standards and protecting data privacy. We understand the importance of quickly identifying and securing sensitive data objects, and we continuously work towards providing solutions to support these goals. This includes features like classification and tag-based policies, as well as the user-friendly Data Governance UI.

We are excited to introduce Snowflake Data Classification, a new addition to our offerings, now available in public preview. This feature allows users to run and review data classification within Snowsight, providing a simple experience to classify data in schemas or specific tables, apply classification results, and protect data with access and masking policies.

Simplifying Data Identification and Protection

Snowsight’s Data Classification feature enhances the process of identifying and tagging sensitive data through a user-friendly interface. Users can easily classify data with a few clicks, making it easier to label sensitive information within datasets.

How it Works

Snowflake’s Data Classification functionality helps organizations gain a deeper understanding of their data assets by efficiently identifying and tagging sensitive information. This enables teams to protect and utilize data for analysis while adhering to compliance regulations and data protection protocols.

You can now run classification for all or selected tables within a schema, streamlining the process and providing a more intuitive user experience compared to manual JSON parsing.

The image below demonstrates how you can select a schema and run classification with ease.

Auto-tagging allows you to apply high-confidence classifiers to objects automatically, saving time and effort in the classification process.

You can review the auto-applied tags or manually review suggested semantic and privacy category tags for objects. The classification results will show any changes in categories. See the images below for examples.

Ready to Try Data Classification?

Data Classification in Snowsight offers a user-friendly interface to help you identify and tag sensitive data effectively. Visit the documentation page for Data Classification to get started today!
