OmniOn offers support for various technologies, with a focus on robotics. For more information, click here. According to OmniOn Power Inc., the emphasis in the design and development of delivery robots and autonomous vehicles has primarily been on safe navigation and obstacle detection. However, the company points out that these technologies will also require dependable charging and communication infrastructure.

Gopal Mitra, global segment leader for industrials at OmniOn, noted that the robotics industry saw significant cost optimization in 2023 to address challenges such as space constraints and labor shortages in e-commerce. Mitra highlighted the need for reliable power supply for delivery robots operating outdoors.

OmniOn Power, formerly ABB Power Conversion, acquired by AcBel Polytech Inc. in July 2023, specializes in providing high-voltage DC solutions for outdoor installations and onboard robotics. The company aims to support the evolving needs of 5G technology and cloud and edge computing.

Mitra discussed the challenges faced by robotics companies in terms of battery technology, emphasizing the need for innovation to address issues such as weight, extreme temperatures, and charging efficiency. OmniOn is actively working on developing power solutions for telecom and 5G networks to enable autonomy in robotics.

In addition to power supply, OmniOn is exploring various strategies to maximize robot uptime, including hot-swappable batteries and wireless charging options. Mitra highlighted the importance of industry collaboration to standardize power management approaches for robotics.

As the robotics industry continues to evolve, the role of technologies like AI and 5G in powering autonomous systems is becoming increasingly significant. Mitra highlighted the potential impact of generative AI and humanoid robotics on networking and power demands, emphasizing the need for efficient power management solutions.

Overall, OmniOn anticipates significant growth in demand for delivery robots and automated warehouses, driving innovation in power management solutions for the robotics industry. The company is optimistic about the potential of wireless charging to revolutionize the robotics space in the long term.
