Shanker Trivedi, senior vice president at NVIDIA, met with Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar at MeitY today. The discussions focused on India’s Digital Public Infrastructure and potential partnership areas with NVIDIA in Sovereign AI.
“NVIDIA is particularly interested in the growth of sovereign AI. Digital Public Infrastructure is key to developing Sovereign AI,” Trivedi stated.
“With a strong infrastructure in place to support generative AI models on digital public infrastructure, there is a significant opportunity for NVIDIA to collaborate with the government,” he added.
“Grateful for a productive discussion with MoS, MEITY, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Shankar Trivedi on the importance of Sovereign AI. Aligning AI with national priorities in health, agriculture, and education is crucial,” said Vishal Dhupar, managing director, Asia South at NVIDIA.
What is Sovereign AI
Jensen Huang, CEO of the world’s third-most valued company, has been emphasizing the importance of every nation developing its own ‘Sovereign AI’.
He has traveled to various countries, from the Indian subcontinent to the UAE, including the recent World Government Summit in Dubai.
According to Huang, sovereign AI goes beyond just algorithms in a server room. It represents a shift in power, reclaiming national autonomy in generative AI. It ensures that AI decisions, impacting areas like healthcare and defense, align with each nation’s priorities.
Huang aims to help countries take control of shaping and building AI to suit their needs. He believes AI could reshape not only how we live but also the character of different nations.
