ChatGPT is also playing a key role in supporting the initiatives of local governments, such as Yokosuka City, to enhance the efficiency of public services in Japan. In the past year, Yokosuka City has gradually rolled out access to ChatGPT to nearly all city employees, resulting in an 80% increase in productivity. Yokosuka City has now established a network with 21 other local governments, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the City of Kobe, to exchange best practices in using ChatGPT within government operations.
As a leading global authority on AI policy, the Japanese government spearheaded the G7 Hiroshima AI Process and worked towards implementing AI policies that align with its objectives of promoting human dignity, diversity and inclusion, and sustainable societies. These efforts also aim to address challenges such as rural depopulation and labor shortages in Japan.
