Fortune’s annual ranking of the top U.S. companies by revenue welcomed 14 new faces this year, marking their first appearance on the list.
Among the newcomers on the Fortune 500 list, five are from the tech sector, contributing to a total combined revenue of $144 billion alongside companies from financial, health care, and telecommunications industries.
Notable newcomers include DoorDash as the leading tech company, IntuitiveSurgical (creator of the DaVinci5 surgical robot), and Monster Energy. These companies have founding years that span across three centuries, with New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) and First Citizens BancShares established in 1859 and 1898, respectively. DoorDash, founded in 2013, is the youngest addition.
Similar to the 2023 newcomers list, which featured Silicon Valley Bank following its March collapse, NYCB joins the Fortune 500 for the first time this year with a reported 2023 revenue of $8.2 billion.
One standout newcomer is EchoStar, which did not have a Fortune 1000 ranking last year but now holds the No. 242 position on the 2024 Fortune 500. The satellite and internet service provider saw the biggest revenue increase among the newcomers, reaching $17 billion.
