Tesla CEO Elon Musk has described it as ‘absurd’ that India does not have a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), stating that countries with excess power are reluctant to relinquish it.
Musk’s comments come in response to UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressing concern about the absence of any African nation as a permanent member of the Security Council.
Guterres expressed his disappointment, questioning how it is possible for Africa to still lack a single permanent member in the Security Council. He emphasized the need for institutions to reflect the realities of today’s world.
Responding to Guterres’ comments, American-born Israeli venture capitalist Michael Eisenberg also mentioned India, asking, “And what about India?” Eisenberg went on to suggest the dismantling of the UN and the creation of a new organization with stronger leadership.
Eisenberg further suggested the need for a revision of the UN bodies and the establishment of a new organization that addresses the issue of power imbalance.

Musk also suggested that Africa collectively should have a permanent seat.

India has made efforts to secure a permanent membership in the Security Council, but these attempts have been hindered by China due to the ongoing animosity between the two nations.
