California is the robotics capital of the world

I arrived in the Silicon Valley region in 2010 because I knew it was the robotics center of the world, but it doesn’t receive as much media attention as other robotics regions do. In California, robotics technology is overshadowed by bigger technology industries, which hides the importance of Californian companies in the robotics revolution. According to Pitchbook’s dataset on robotics and drones companies, there are 7166 companies in this industry, but a more specific search would reveal around 10,000 robotics companies worldwide. Here is a breakdown of the number of companies by region:
– North America: 2802
– Asia: 2337
– Europe: 2285
– Middle East: 321
– Oceania: 155
– South America: 111
– Africa: 63
– Central America: 13

In California alone, there are 843 robotics companies, followed by Texas with 220, New York with 193, Massachusetts with 191, and Florida with 136. The number in parentheses represents the number of headquarters in each state, while the first number represents all company locations. The rankings remain practically the same regardless.

In terms of countries, China leads with 1350 robotics companies, followed by Japan with 283, India with 261, South Korea with 246, and Israel with 193. Hong Kong, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Malaysia also have a significant number of robotics companies.

In Europe, the United Kingdom has 443 robotics companies, followed by Germany with 331, France with 320, Spain with 159, and the Netherlands with 156. Other countries like Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway also have notable presence in the robotics industry.

In Canada, Ontario has 144 robotics companies, British Columbia has 60, Quebec has 53, and Alberta has 34. Other provinces like Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland & Labrador also have a few robotics companies.

Silicon Valley Robotics is an industry association that supports innovation and commercialization of robotics technologies.
