Data science is not going away. People are willing to alter their major in order to seek a job in data science. But that begs the question, what do Data Scientists do? What problem statements do they work on?
Here’s Srikanth Varma, (SVP (Data Science & ML), Scaler) answering one of the most asked questions by data science enthusiasts.
What is Data Science?
Data science is an interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from noisy, structured and unstructured data, and apply knowledge and actionable insights from data across a broad range of application domains.
What is Machine Learning?
Machine learning (ML) is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that enables software applications to grow increasingly effective at predicting outcomes without explicitly programming them to do so. In order to forecast new output values, machine learning algorithms use historical data as input.
Who are Data Scientists?
Data scientists choose the questions their team should pose and work out how to use data to provide answers. They frequently create predictive models for forecasting and theorising.
