We are pleased to announce that VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager (VCPLCM) version 1.6 is now generally available as of October 19, 2023. With VCPLCM, our goal is to simplify the management and maintenance of VMware products for our Cloud Provider Partners, reducing complexity and operational effort. Our focus is on automating processes to eliminate human errors and minimize maintenance downtime.
In this release, we have made several enhancements to enhance the user experience and expand product and maintenance support. The new version introduces the “Administration” option, allowing providers to securely delegate and control maintenance and management operations to separate personas with their own login credentials. We have also introduced a new user interface for product registration, making it simpler and more straightforward to deploy or register new products on VCPLCM.
In terms of extended product support, users can now register NSX Advanced Load Balancer on VCPLCM and integrate it with VMware Cloud Director and Usage Meter. Additionally, data backup and recovery capabilities are now available, allowing users to back up data and ensure effective recovery of the VCPLCM appliance in case of system failures or process disasters. We have also introduced a “maintenance mode” switch for product components, allowing users to mark nodes as “in maintenance mode” during upgrades or maintenance activities.
The user experience has been improved with enhancements to the User Interface, making operations like deployment and registration of existing products more streamlined. Users can now view the existing binaries in the repository from the UI and deploy or upgrade products accordingly. Role-based access management has also been introduced, allowing users to configure external authentication sources, define and assign roles with permissions, and login with different users and assigned tasks.
For day-to-day operations, users can now enable or disable the maintenance mode of VCD cells, allowing for seamless patching or maintenance activities. Backup and restore capabilities for the VCPLCM appliance are now available, allowing users to backup and restore deployed/registered products, registered infrastructure components, recent tasks and logs, authentication sources, roles and users, vault content, and certificates and keys for the VCP LCM appliance.
Furthermore, users can now register NSX ALB as an infrastructure component and integrate it with VMware Cloud Director and Usage Meter. API enhancements have also been made, with updates to the VCPLCM REST API and additional API operations for tasks, interop reports, and notifications.
We hope you find these updates valuable. If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact us on our VCPLCM community slack channel or write to us.
