Tomás Vega SM ’19 developed a stutter at the age of 5, giving him insight into the challenges of disabilities and the potential of technology. His interest in human augmentation and empathy led him to use technology to enhance human abilities, starting at a young age.
Vega’s journey with technology continued through high school and college, where he worked on projects to assist people with disabilities. Today, he is the CEO of Augmental, a startup focused on improving accessibility for individuals with movement impairments.
Augmental’s flagship product, the MouthPad, enables users to control their devices through tongue and head movements. This innovative technology has already made a significant impact on individuals with spinal cord injuries, empowering them to interact with technology independently.
Vega’s experience at MIT’s Media Lab allowed him to explore his passion for augmenting human ability and develop solutions that bridge the gap between technology and accessibility. Augmental’s mission is to ensure that individuals with disabilities can use technology as effectively as anyone else.
Through ongoing innovation and collaboration, Augmental aims to enhance the capabilities of its products and provide a seamless user experience for a wide range of individuals. With a focus on FDA clearance and expanding accessibility, Augmental is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of its users.
