Investing.com – Japan stocks saw an increase in value at the close of trading on Friday, with gains in the , and sectors driving shares higher.

Leading the way in the session were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:), which saw a 6.64% increase of 19.00 points to reach 305.00 at closing. Meanwhile, Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:) added 6.11% or 54.10 points to finish at 939.60, and IHI Corp. (TYO:) saw a 5.72% increase of 219.00 points to reach 4,048.00 towards the end of trading.
On the other hand, the biggest decliners in the session were Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:), which fell 2.52% or 870.00 points to close at 33,630.00. Omron Cor (TYO:) dropped 1.83% or 96.00 points to end at 5,138.00, and Bandai Namco Holdings Inc (TYO:) declined 1.65% or 48.00 points to 2,862.00.
There were more rising stocks than declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with 3143 stocks gaining, 554 losing, and 176 remaining unchanged.
The , which reflects the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, increased by 4.88% to 17.62.
In commodity trading, crude oil for July delivery decreased by 0.17% to $77.78 a barrel. Brent oil for August delivery fell by 0.04% to $81.85 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract dropped by 0.09% to $2,364.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY rose by 0.08% to 156.93, while EUR/JPY fell by 0.05% to 169.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures increased by 0.14% to 104.80.
