The FBI has opened a federal criminal investigation into last month\’s collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Maryland, the Washington Post reported Monday, citing unnamed U.S. officials.
The investigation will focus at least in part on whether the crew of the Maersk (OTCPK:AMKBY) (OTCPK:AMKBF) container ship that rammed into the bridge left the port in Baltimore knowing the ship had serious systems problems, according to the report.
Federal agents reportedly boarded the ship early Monday morning to conduct a search.
The criminal probe is separate from the investigation launched by the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash and assess other safety-related measures.
