Fiji is aiming for a 5-7 per cent increase in tourist arrivals from India this year through targeted marketing campaigns and utilizing digital platforms to attract honeymooners and families.
The country is focusing on drawing Indian tourists in segments such as honeymoon, sustainable and eco-tourism, wellness travel, and multi-generational families, according to Tourism Fiji Executive Director of Regions Robert Thompson.
“Indian arrivals to Fiji in 2023 have reached pre-Covid levels of 2019, showing a growing interest in premium and experiential travel,” Thompson said.
He noted that December 2023 saw a significant increase in Indian arrivals in Fiji, with a 300 per cent rise compared to the same month in 2022, with an average stay of 7.6 nights.
In 2023, Fiji welcomed 929,740 international travelers, exceeding 2019 figures by 4 per cent and contributing around USD 3.3 billion to the visitor economy, primarily from Australia, New Zealand, and North America, with over 6,135 Indian tourists visiting the country.
“Our strategy includes targeted marketing campaigns and digital platforms to reach a broader audience and increase brand presence, with expectations of a 5-7 per cent rise in Indian footfalls in 2024,” he added.
Tourism Fiji aims to attract Indian tourists seeking a picturesque and relaxing getaway by showcasing Fiji’s pristine beaches, clear waters, and tropical landscapes, as well as those interested in adventure activities such as water sports, diving, and hiking.
Thompson mentioned that while there are no direct flights between India and Fiji, travelers can take connecting flights from countries like Hong Kong, Australia, and Singapore, with Fiji offering a visa-on-arrival facility for Indian passport holders.
