Oil tanker Hafnia Seine, en route to the United States from Sikka port in Western India, collided with Bharat Petroleum Corp’s (BPCL) crude import facility in an accident late on Sunday, as reported by two sources familiar with the incident on Monday.
The tanker was carrying alkylate, a gasoline-blending fuel for Reliance Industries’ U.S. unit from a refinery in Jamnagar, Gujarat, according to the sources. The extent of the damage is currently unknown.
One of the sources stated, “It seems to have struck the peripheral structure of the single point mooring (SPM),” and mentioned that no vessel is scheduled to unload at the SPM at the moment.
BPCL utilizes a single point mooring at Sikka for importing crude for its Bina refinery in central India.
RIL and BPCL have not responded to Reuters’ requests for comments. The sources preferred to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
