The central government is planning to increase the supply of essential commodities under the Bharat brand in order to stabilize prices for the upcoming festival. The focus will be on increasing supplies of flour, pulses, and rice in high consumption areas.
Enhanced Accessibility
Products under the ‘Bharat brand’ will be made available at co-operative stores and major retail chains. States have been instructed to monitor and prevent hoarding activities. If prices rise, the government will sell the items under the Bharat brand.
Additionally, discussions are being held regarding the availability of edible oil and other essential commodities under the scheme.
The government currently sells flour and rice through three agencies – NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar. Retail sales of ‘Bharat Atta’ and ‘Bharat Rice’ were initiated in the past year to regulate prices, with FCI supplying grains to these agencies.
